About Me
I have over 30 years' experience in environmental and utility fields and have been a
certified
instructor for TWUA since 2014. I began my career by pursuing an associate degree in
hazardous and radioactive materials and waste management from NMSU in 1993. After
earning the degree, I spent some time teaching HAZWOPER classes and performing mock
spill drills before starting a family and moving to Texas.
I began the next leg of my journey in the City of Lubbock's wastewater lab, advancing my knowledge and skills as I transitioned into operations and then to management for the City of Levelland. During this time, I earned my Texas licenses as well as a bachelor's degree in public administration and my Certified Public Manager's certification. I returned to New Mexico and earned my licenses there before becoming a full time instructor and lecturer.
In my 20 years of working in the wastewater utility industry, I have performed nearly all analyses required for process control and compliance. I have trained and continue to train other operators both in lab and operations. I have worked with activated sludge plants, lagoons/ponds, biological nutrient reactors, membrane biological reactors, collections, reuse, and water wells. I have collaborated with TCEQ, the NMED, and the EPA on permitting, compliance, and licensing issues and requirements. My experience spans safety regulations, hazardous materials, water utilities, industrial monitoring including air, water, solid waste, and soil and other environmental issues.
I am a proud member of both the New Mexico Water and Wastewater Association (NMWWA) and the Texas Water Utilities Association (TWUA). I currently deliver monthly training sessions for the NMWWA Central Section via Microsoft Teams, covering a wide range of topics including water, wastewater, and crossover topics, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance. My goal is to provide accessible, high-impact instruction that supports operators in passing their certification exams and thriving throughout their careers. Looking ahead, I'm expanding services to include accredited, self-paced training modules based on these monthly presentations, as well as offering live Teleweb instruction to further accommodate diverse learning styles and schedules.
