Water Utilities Certified Instructor for the Southwest

About Me

I have nearly 40 years’ experience in environmental and utility fields and have been and instructor for TWUA since 2014. I began my career by pursuing an associate degree in hazardous and radioactive materials and waste management from NMSU in 1983. After earning the degree, I spent some time teaching HAZWOPER classes and performing mock spill drills before starting a family and moving to Texas.

I began the next leg of my journey in the City of Lubbock’s wastewater lab where I advanced my knowledge and skills as I transitioned into operations and then to management for the City of Levelland. During this time, I earned my Texas licenses as well as a bachelor’s degree in public administration and my Certified Public Manager’s certification. I returned to New Mexico and earned my licenses there before becoming a full time instructor and lecturer.

In my 15+ years of working in the wastewater utility industry, I performed nearly all analyses required for process control and compliance. I trained other operators both in lab and operations. I worked with activated sludge plants, lagoons/ponds, biological nutrient reactors, membrane biological reactors, collections, reuse, and water wells.

I worked with TCEQ, the NMED, and the EPA on permitting, compliance, and licensing issues and requirements. I am knowledgeable and experienced with regulations concerning safety, hazardous materials, water utilities, and industrial monitoring including air, water, solid waste, and soil environmental issues.
